OVERVIEW
We founded Conscious Embodiment Trainings in 2007 with the intention of promoting awareness of the importance of the pre and perinatal period in the development of human personality and culture. We are informed by our joint backgrounds in body psychotherapy, craniosacral therapy, trauma studies, midwifery and pre- and perinatal psychology. This has included many years of our own embodied experiential research in these fields and the integration of many different influences, including that of indigenous teachings and wilderness retreats.
All our workshops and courses are run in cooperation with the International Society of Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology and Medicine (ISPPPM).
Our experiential workshops and courses create a safe and empathic space in which to explore how our prenatal and birth experiences shaped us not only then, but continue to do so throughout life. Using embodied regressive techniques to explore these territories, we work at the pace of the individual to become more conscious of how these early patterns run us and to find ways to open up to greater creativity and connection.
“This earth that we live on is full of stories in the same way that, for a fish, the ocean is full of ocean. Some people say when we are born we’re born into stories. I say we’re also born from stories.”
Ben Okri
Our Integrative Baby Therapy Training teaches practitioners to recognise Baby Body Language (BBL) and the prenatal or birth story that is being expressed through the BBL. A strong focus of the training is to support parents, so that they can in turn support their baby. This includes helping parents to differentiate between crying that is expressing a present moment need, such as tiredness or hunger, and crying that expresses an unresolved prenatal or birth issue. Deepening parental resources and helping babies and infants to complete processes that they have become stuck in are central themes.
“We are nature, long have we been absent, but now we return….”
Walt Whitman
In our annual ‘Healing the Earth, Healing Ourselves’ workshop we allow the natural environment to act as therapist, mentor and sage. Indigenous people have done this for millennia and the ‘archaic whisper’ of our own indigenous roots is still alive within us and our landscape. As our inner world of image and sensation begins to connect with the outer world of the elements, we rediscover ourselves as both ancient and continuously renewed.
As we run our courses in a number of different countries, they are not all continuously running in any one country. This means that certain courses only come around every few years. For information on which courses are upcoming you can check the courses page or calendar.
We welcome all enquires. Most of our courses are open to everyone, but certain courses have particular requirements for registration. If you are in any doubt, please do not hesitate to get in contact.
“Oh, what a catastrophe, what a maiming of love when it was made a personal, merely personal feeling, taken away from the rising and setting of the sun and cut off from the magic connection of the solstice and equinox! This is what is the matter with us, we are bleeding at the roots, because we are cut off from the earth and sun and stars, and love is a grinning mockery, because, poor blossom, we plucked it from its stem on the tree of life, and expected it to keep on blooming in our civilised vase on the table.”
